Sheep and Toys

The end of our week was filled with so many fun things to do. On Thursday Mrs Caines was shearing the sheep at the College and invited us all to watch. We went down to the cricket nets and watched as the sheep were dragged onto a small platform and then sheared. It was amazing how the sheep just layed quite still. We got to touch some of the wool that was cut off. How did it feel 1/2DW?

In HSIE this term we are studying 'The Way We Were'. This week we looked at toys from the past and had a turn playing with the toys. We played a game of marbles. There was a cup with a ball attached with string that we had to try to get into the cup. This was very tricky and the class record was 1! We played with paper dolls Molly and John and dressed them in paper clothes. Another group worked with Mrs Wadds to make a doll out of an old wooden peg. The last activity was sorting old and new toys on the interactive whiteboard (even though schools in the past didn't have this technology!) It was a lot of fun. What other toys did children play with in the past?

  2. Dear Mrs Holland,
Thanks so much for coming on our excursion. We loved sharing the day with you.
Wasn't it a great way to learn about how life was in the olden days? What was your favourite part?

    1. Hey Mrs Downes. My favourite part was definitely the house. It goes to show just how much things have changed when you look at the house sizes we live in these days. Oh the pikelets were pretty good too. :)

  3. Class 3 have been learning about old toys too. We had a go at playing with hoops and sticks. It was really hard to control.
