Problem solving

Last week 1/2DW learnt a new strategy for problem solving in mathematics. It is called 'Act it out'. When you read a problem, you can act it out using people, blocks, counters, books, pencils or anything else you can find. We first solved the problem of Jamie the cook making 5 cakes and putting 6 smarties on each cake. We chose 5 people to stand up and gave each person 6 counters. We then saw that Jamie used 30 counters altogether.
After solving a few problems together, we had a go at solving more problems on our own or with a partner.
1/2DW are very clever problem solvers!
