Colonial dress?

Colonial dress....
When we go on our excursion in a few weeks, we have been asked to wear colonial dress. It helps the students get into character as they learn about the olden days. Here are a few photos of people in colonial dress. If students don't have any colonial dress, they can wear their school uniform.
The colonial dress can be as simple as a long dress for the girls or a shirt and long pants for the boys. We'd love any parents helpers to dress up too!

Excursion time!

Have you heard the news? We're going on an excursion! The students are so excited. We're going to see what life was like in the olden days in week 4 and week 5. Apparently they didn't even have computers in the olden days. Imagine that! Due to size restrictions half the class will be going with 1H and the other half with 2F.
See Mrs Downes or Mrs Wadds if you have not received a note about the excursion. It has all the details.
If you would like to have a look at the centre with your own family one day, it is open to the public too. http://www.oaksheritagecentre.com/

Welcome Back!

We had a great first day back! The students were so excited to share what they did in their holidays. Mrs Downes even told some news about her trip to the Gold Coast!

In Church time someone from Operation Christmas Child came to share how we can bless children who live in poverty and give them hope.

We sang the times tables songs and used a number line to subtract.

Later we talked about ANZAC Day and how special it is.

This is going to be a great term!

Wednesday 4/4

Today in 1/2DW we had a very big day.

First we sent off our Year 2's off with Mrs Frances to run the Cross Country. Many of our Year 1's were wishing they were in Year 2 so they could run as well but they'll have to wait 1 more year. Our Year 2 students came back with red faces and tales of great running and we were very proud of them.

We watched a short clip about Easter which showed what Jesus did for us. It was made using a Children's Storybook Bible and we had a discussion about how exciting it is that Jesus rose again!

Later we gave out our birthday awards. Lots of people have had birthdays already this year!

After recess we wrote Narratives. Narratives have
* Orientation- introducing the main characters, setting, time and place.
* Complication- a problem happens for one of the main characters.
* Resolution- the problem is resolved.
We all wrote some amazing Narratives. There were stories about getting lost at the shops, animals being chased by other animals, a butterfly getting caught by a spider and many stories featured characters from Star Wars!

After lunch we had lots of fun in the hall. We were able to try lots of different activities with 1H and 2F.
There were extra NED awards given out because we won't be at school on Friday. Ned awards are for NEVER giving up, ENCOURAGING others and DOING your best.
Nathanael and Emily A were two of the Term 1 NED winners for getting the most NED awards. They received a chocolate.

Well done to Emily A & Nathanael!
Thanks to all of your support this term. I've had a wonderful first term with 1/2DW and I can't wait to hear how exciting the holidays has been for all the students. We'd love the students to comment on the blog about what they've been doing during the holidays. Have a wonderful holiday as we remember the loving God who sent his only son Jesus out of total love for all of us.

Easter Hats

Today we opened our classroom up to some amazing parents who came in to help with our Easter Hat making.

There was glitter, parents with glue guns, little chickens, eggs and lots of craft material.

A big thank you to Luca's Dad, Zack's Mum, Sian's Mum and brother, Kieran's Mum, Emily A's Mum, Keeley's Mum, Sienna's Mum and brother and Kaitlyn's Mum for coming in.

We were so happy to have you in our classroom and Mrs Downes wonders what she would have done without your amazing help!

Don't worry if you couldn't make it because you had work or other plans today, the parents were helping everyone and Mrs Downes was our pretend mum. She said we were very well behaved children!

See you at the Easter Hat Parade. Send in a note if you can't make it and want us to take a special photo of your child.
