Daily 5 Champions!

1/2DW are amazing! We are going so well with Daily 5. Mrs McGinnes, our librarian, came in today to give awards to some of our students that have been showing great work in Daily 5 activities during Library.
Congratulations to Keeley, Kaitlyn, Katarina, Sienna, Joshua, Nathanael and Luca.

We can't get enough of Daily 5. Today at lunch, Mrs Wadds and Mrs Pope found Keeley and Sienna so excited about Read to Someone, that they had taken a book into the playground to read together. Isn't it great that we love reading so much!

Forklifts!

Yesterday we had another special visitor to 1/2DW. Mr Ewin, one of our students' dads, came to talk to us about his job.
Mr Ewin works with forklifts (Sienna). He spends lots of time in meetings and checks that everyone is doing the right job. (Shayden). Mr Ewin likes doing his jobs (Maxwell). He is the manager of his work (Keeley). That means he is the boss! (Ariana).
He sells forklifts (Zack) and he has a lot of forklifts (Katarina). Mr Ewin does his work (Vishal) and he goes on aeroplanes to go to special meetings (Sian). He has lots of forklifts coming into his work (Mikinley). He has lots of papers on his desk (Kieran).
Mr Ewin taught us that forklifts carry lots of boxes (Luca). Food is in the boxes (Kaitlyn). Some forklifts can lift up 2 or 3 cars (Nathanael).
Mr Ewin brought in toy forklifts (Emily A). Everyone had a turn playing with them (Mrs Wadds). Zack broke some of the forklifts (Harrison). Mr Ewin had a laugh about that in our classroom.
Mr Ewin gave us all hats, cold drink holders and keyrings (Emily T). Thank you for letting us have a turn of the toy forklifts (Joshua) Thank you for giving us those things. (Katarina, 1/2DW and Mrs Wadds)

PE time!

1/2DW love PE. We do PE with 2F and 1H on Wednesdays. Today we did Shot Put with Mrs Downes, throwing with Mrs Frances and an Obstacle Course with Mrs Harris. We try hard to * Never give up
* Encourage others
* Do our best
Each week the teachers give out NED awards to people who stand out in these three areas.

'I read you read'

Today 1/2DW learnt about a way to 'Read to Someone'. It is called 'I read you read'. So what happens in 'I read you read?'

* You read a page and the other person reads the same page. (Lachlan)

Why do we do this? How does it help us become better readers? Let's ask 1/2DW!

* There might be hard words and words you don't know. (Kieran)

* To become a better reader. (Sienna)

* So that you can be good at reading. (Logan)

* So when the other person reads they will already know what the words are. (Mohit)

* So you can get better at rading aloud. (Eliza)

* It helps our reading become more fluent and sound like talking. (Mrs Downes)

Life Cycles

Today 1/2DW looked at the life cycle of a butterfly. What an interesting journey the caterpillar has from egg-caterpillar-chrysalis-butterfly.
