In Maths we have been learning about length. Today we discovered that using hand spans or our feet are not the best ways to measure length. Mrs Wadds used her hands to measure the length of a table and measured 6 hand spans. Then Sienna used her hands to measure the same table and measured 8 hand spans. We discovered that because Mrs Wadds' hands are bigger than Sienna's, we would have different results. We then learned about 1 metre and that a metre ruler was a good way to get an accurate measurement. Using our own metre rulers made from crepe paper, we measured things in our classroom to find out things that are shorter than 1 metre, longer than 1 metre or about 1 metre in length. We even measured our waists! We discovered that everyone in our class is taller than 1 metre!
We are a Stage One class at Mount Annan Christian College. We are continually learning; the students and the teachers!

Mighty Maths
Today in 1/2DW we started Maths by using dice and tallying the results. Some of us used two dice and some people used one. It was very fun!

Maths- Counting On
This week we have been looking at addition in Maths. We are learning how to count on by finding the highest number and putting that in our head and then adding the smaller number. We have used number lines, whiteboards, computers and the interactive whiteboard.
Click on this link to try a great game that uses number lines. Mrs Frances found it for us!
