Art around the World - Japan

Today in Visual Arts we visited Japan. We looked at Japanese fans and noticed that many fans had a design with cherry blossoms on them. We found out that cherry blossoms are a popular flower in Japan and are very beautiful, so we decided to use them as a design on our own fans.
We had a turn at making our own fans by drawing the branches of a cherry blossom tree. We then put a wash over the paper and painted the flowers on the branches.
While we waited for the paint to dry we had a go at doing origami, a Japanese paper folding activity. We all made a cat. Next week we are going to try making a dog and maybe even a rabbit.
Next week we will fold our fans and add paddle pop sticks to the ends to finish them off.

We love art and are having a lot of fun exploring places around the world and putting stamps into our passports.
